I have a confession. Front porch deliveries are my jam, and Amazon Prime Now is no exception. I cannot tell you how many times, even just 2 or 3 years ago, I would be at home sick with babies, or in the middle of a project, and wish that a little delivery fairy could bring me the one little component or ingredient that I needed. Somehow, it makes me feel like a future version of “Little House on the Prairie” and instead of having to go out and milk the cow, the cow just brings the milk in a jug to my doorstep! It’s like my very own daydream of being a Jetson. (I think I need to introduce my children to that cartoon.)
Anyways, as I was saying, front porch deliveries are my new thing. (I still love Shipt by the way.) I’ve figured out that for a couple of bucks in a tip, I can save gas, time, traffic stress, and do a lot less of wrangling children into the car, when I take advantage of all of these wonderful services that are now available. Now, we happen to live in a pretty prime zip code for a lot of these things, and I know not all of you are quite so happy about the deliveries available to your zip code. Don’t lose heart, they are coming for you! (unless you really do live in a modern day Little House on the Prairie…but then I imagine that you actually like that you are out in the middle of nowhere. I want to be you someday, too.)
Before I tell you about my new favorite front porch delivery, there are two minor details we need to settle.
First, if you are not an Amazon Prime member, please join the 21st century by signing up here. Just kidding. But really, you’ll thank me. Amazon Prime gives you free 2-day shipping on thousands of items and Amazon Prime Video, which is like Netflix AND has every released Daniel Tiger episode. If you need a small reprieve from parenting, Daniel Tiger is great in a pinch. I do not recommend delegating your parenting to a cartoon, but it is wonderful to hear my children singing “When you feel so mad that you want to roar, take a deep breath and count to four,” as I am taking deep breaths and counting to four in the other room. Wink, wink. On top of that, you get all sorts of other perks like Subscribe & Save, music, photo storage, and the like. I don’t even take advantage of everything they offer so read more about it here.
Secondly, I am a huge supporter of small business and shopping locally. Entrepreneurs and small business owners, who are invested in our community by providing a good or service with unbelievable customer service, are the backbone of our local and national economy. They provide jobs, invest in homes and families, and provide support and funding in our local communities. They deserve our respect and our patronage. Even if you can buy it cheaper online, sometimes that personal touch and knowledgeable staff can make all the difference. Consider that when you shop. Don’t be the type of person who takes advantage of the small business owners’ knowledge and expertise by purposefully taking up their time and information, all the while knowing you will be purchasing somewhere else without that service. Now that we have that settled, let me introduce you to my new liberation.
My new favorite front porch delivery is Amazon Prime Now.
Amazon Prime Now is a FREE local delivery (as soon as two hours) on thousands of items, when you spend $20. So, when you forget about that birthday party until the last minute, you can have it delivered to your doorstep faster than you can get off work and get it yourself. Or, when you are in the middle of a huge closet organization marathon, and you need some more hangers but don’t want to wake your kids from a nap to run get them, just order them on Amazon Prime Now. Run out of deodorant or toothpaste and also need a new phone charger? Just open the app and place your order. At Christmas, we were getting our girls Razor scooters and the one we wanted was sold out online. Guess who had it to me in two hours?!?! I can only imagine the endless possibilities of using this when we travel and forget something crucial. Simply add a new address and have it delivered to wherever you are staying. Save a cab fare and your precious travel time. Sometimes the way our world works these days absolutely boggles my mind.
Here is my latest delivery:
Yep, that’s right. Pink sticker craftiness (for that birthday party I forgot about), along with a satin pillowcase (have you seen my crazy naturally curly hair in the morning?), and some book rings for that Christmas card project I was going to finish 2 months ago. I ran out of them and for two months have forgotten to get that odd item that I rarely ever buy. Someone should tell this girl how to use Siri reminders! Ha!
